Here at The Extraordinary Ordinary Project we’re always busy working on something – and we wanted to share a bit of what we do when we’re not interviewing inspiring entrepreneurs.
Our friendship really sprung out of our love of creativity and party planning – hence ReBash.
Something we believe strongly in is that you can entertain on a budget stylishly and we want to share our tips and tricks with all of you! So keep your eyes on this space for some fun party-planning posts, along with our regular content featuring parents running their own businesses.
Joelle was inspired recently to put together this gorgeous set of event stationery for a Frida Kahlo-themed kids party. We created a kids party for this shoot, but the invite can be customized for a colourful and fun bridal shower, Cinco de Mayo or housewarming event.
The delicious cake was a recipe by Yoga of Cooking that you can find here. The edible cornflowers on top are straight from Joelle’s garden! You can substitute with some colourful sprinkles or more fruit.
We used a gorgeous, colourful scarf that was Joelle’s grandmother’s as a tablecloth.
Fresh flowers are always the perfect way to liven up a space and we always head to our trusty grocery store and pick out on-theme colours in budget-friendly stems such as carnations.
If you’re anything like us you have a random assortment of arts and crafts supplies squirrelled away, so these pom poms were a great addition to add dimension and whimsy to the table.
The photo props are cutouts of a photo of actual flowers from Joelle’s garden (I swear, this woman has the greenest thumb I’ve ever seen) and the kids have so much fun horsing around with the faux uni-brow!
An event like this is a great way to have conversations around strong, independent and creative people like Frida. This book was an awesome find – they have a whole series of them featuring prominent women across all industries.
A really cool way to customize your party is with paper wraps like this – we used it here to create a vase out of a regular ole tin can. Other ideas would be to wrap reusable water bottles for the party guests, or wrap around napkins.
You can make your own papel picado (paper cut-out banner), or you can make your life easier like us and grab one from your local party supply store or Amazon.
Fun Menu Ideas:
Salsa + corn chips + guacamole
Oaxacan dark chocolate
And add in Sangria or Tequila cocktails if it’s a grown-up party 😉
